Jonah

Jonah runs away from his duty to share the word of God with the Ninevites he does this because he realises that God is compassionate and incredibly merciful. He knows that God will relent when people turn away from their waywardness. The bigger question however is, why does God show mercy to disgraceful Nineveh? In this sermon Jamie draws from the book of Nineveh to show us that God does not treat us as we should be treated.

Romans1 and The Gospel

Why is the gospel the good news of Jesus Christ? This word was historically used to announce a new emperor or any significant past event. But now we find it announcing a new king in town with a kingdom that shall reign forever and ever coming to bring salvation through a message that is both power and powerful. What does this mean for all of us? ultimately this is good news for the world, for God has revealed his plan for the world and the king (Jesus) is at the centre of it all.

Fruitfulness

when we look at success and fruitfulness, without flinching success seems more appealing because we think with it comes happiness.We are so easily enamoured with success however we have seen much too many superstars reach the peak of dissatisfaction, disappointment and despair at the prime of their careers. What God wants us, is to remain in him and bare much. God wants us to fruitful because it is surprisingly fulfilling.

Gift of Choice

Have you ever wondered why two people given the same space will cultivate it differently or the one does well and the other not at all? It comes down to the gift of choice, choosing to respond by acting accordingly in order to effect change. In this sermon we find that God wants us to turn chaos into order and bing about beauty in our spaces.

The Gardener

Behind a well kept garden is a thoughtful, creative and hardworking gardener. This happens because God himself is the divine agent of transformation, in Genesis 1 we see God hovering over the waters Each day God does things and brings about creation. Day by day he is engaging in creation moving things from good to very good. God active in the world.
 

Jesus, a healing and the Kingdom

There is a new king in town and He is the Son of God. Jesus has brought the kingdom of God to Earth, What Mark is telling us is that because Jesus (the king) has come He has a new kingdom with which beckons us to turn away from our sins.

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath

 
Jesus is proclaiming that He is the One who exercises authority even over the rules and regulations that govern the Sabbath day. As such, Jesus was proclaiming to the world, especially to the legalistic Pharisees, that He was greater than the Law and above the laws of the Mosaic Covenant because, as God in the flesh, He is the Author of those laws.

Jesus, Fasting and Weddings

You may ask yourself, what did Jesus mean when he said " can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is still with them? Jesus is making a point here, that fasting during the wedding feast is pointless. In this story Jesus is the bridegroom, while He is present in this world, it is a time of celebration because He is the fulfilment of their Messianic prophecies.

The Paralytic

 
This is a story about a lame man whose friends believed that Jesus could heal him. At last they found a way to get their friend before Jesus by opening the roof and letting him down by ropes attached to his bed. But Jesus didn’t heal the man’s lameness He forgave his sins. From this sermon we can learn that our greatest need is to have our sins forgiven beyond anything else and that Jesus can because He is God in the flesh.

A Tax Collector Changes

We often create lines of who is worthy to be welcomed by Jesus and who is not. we think surely a murderer and a fraudster cannot be saved perhaps a philanthropist. What we see here is that the tax collectors 'Levi' who were disliked for financially enslaving/impoverishing their own people are welcomed by Jesus. this is not a great look for Jesus and the Pharisees are appalled by his mercy.
